Accurate measurements are crucial for ordering the right garage door. Follow these steps to measure your opening correctly.

Measure Twice, Order Once

Inaccurate measurements can result in a door that doesn't fit. Always double-check your measurements before placing an order. If you're unsure, our specialist support team can help verify your measurements.

5 Critical Measurements

1

Opening Width

Take the measurement at the widest point of the garage door opening, measuring from the right side to the left side of the finished opening. Ideally, there should be a wood frame around 2" x 6". Check for any irregularities in the door jambs or opening that might affect your measurements.

2

Opening Height

Record the distance from the floor to the top of the finished opening at its highest point. Pay attention to any irregularities such as an uneven floor that could impact your measurements.

3

Side Room (Left & Right)

Measure the width of the space on both sides of the opening. The vertical track installation needs up to 5 inches on each side. If you're installing two doors side-by-side, the center post requires a minimum width of 10 inches.

4

Headroom

Determine the distance from the top of the opening to either the ceiling or the lowest obstruction above (such as pipes, beams, or lights). This space is critical for proper door operation.

5

Backroom (Depth)

Measure from the opening toward the back of the garage to the rear wall or nearest obstruction. For sectional doors with manual lift, you'll need the door height plus an additional 18 inches of clearance.
